Northside Achievement Zone

The Northside Achievement Zone (NAZ) received a $28 million dollar federal Promise Neighborhood grant disbursed over five years (2012–2016). A collaboration of more than 40 organizations and schools, NAZ works with children and families in a geographic area, or Zone, covering North Minneapolis to build a culture of achievement resulting in youth who graduate from high school ready for college. NAZ is the backbone organization that leads the collaboration and provides the concrete infrastructure services that are needed for these organizations to work seamlessly to support families. By the end of 2015, NAZ had enrolled 1,127 families, exceeding their target of 1,000 families.

Funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s Promise Neighborhood grant competition, this project was one of over 200 applications submitted and 20 grants awarded by the department for planning or implementation beginning fall 2012. Learn more about the federal Promise Neighborhoods grants.
